Luongo hasn't had to be great for this tournament which is a true test to how good the Canadian team is. Hopefully the trend sticks against the US.
Norway 8 - 0: Norway's one great chance was with an open net and they miss the net. The rest were routine saves. Raycroft or McElhinney would have had similar results. 15 shots against.
Germany 8 - 2: 23 shots, 2 goals against. Not really tested.
Russia 7 -3: The dream match-up that every one wants. A big test that turns into the Russians folding led by Nabakov. Far from the epic game that everyone thought. 3 goals on 28 shots. Didn't have to do much as the offense did their job plus some.
Slovakia 3-2: Less than 10 shots the 1st 2 periods but 12 shots against in the 3rd period. Luongo let's in a softie that gets the Slovaks back in the game. The 2nd goal against is a defensive breakdown and he comes up with a huge save in the dying seconds. Biggest save of his career. 2 goals on 21 shots. Far from a great game but came up huge when needed.
USA: ???? Brodeur struggled and that gave Luongo the key until they either win it all or not. It'll be interesting to see what the Americans can do in a 2nd game against the Canadians. I don't see them being able to beat us a 2nd time but Luongo will have his toughest test and will need to be sharper than the past game.
Overall, not really tested in the tournament but and hasn't had to be great to get wins but that's a great thing for the Canadian team. It says a lot of the depth of the team. They don't need great goaltending like the other teams to win gold. Go Canada!
