Yeah, it's been talked about a lot on NFL radio about how since defensive tackles are categorized differently as in, ends and tackles are separate and it affects the cap number, than tagging a 7 million dollar nose tackle makes sense since 3-4 nose tackles are not in heavy supply.
Whereas an end for example gets a 12 million plus tag number, so an end in a 3-4 defence isn't worth that kind of money.
Another interesting thing is that offensive line are all grouped as one position so a guard has the same tag number as a tackle does.
I did see on NFL.com that it appears the Saints won't place a tag on Sharper. Perhaps they'll try to work out a longer deal for a bit less per year.
