This is where most of the animosity comes from I think. Its the self-centered nature of America, due to the limited teaching of outside world in school. Especially considering we are so close geographically. A lot of American's don't seem to understand Canada and that we fought in the wars just like they did and just assume we weren't there because no one told them otherwise. As you said you're a history buff and the only reason you know of Canada at all is because of that.

In our school system we're taught WORLD history which includes a lot of US history, so its kind of insulting that the US wouldnt do the same. Most American's I've met have no idea where Calgary is or even that its a city. We have like 7 major cities. It would be like a Canadian having no clue where Denver or Seattle is. My apologies if this is poorly written it is late and I've had a lot of coffee. I hope this gets my point across without insulting you.
