I found some of the darker reds especially were hard to cover, 4 coats is sometimes needed when you get one of those colors over a white primer. An experienced painter would have warned you right off the bat after seeing the colors and show you coverage after each coat if possible.

How do you tell if they are crappy painters? Do they apply the paint like on commercials in a blob around chest hight and then work it around?

Or do they apply the paint from ceiling to floor vertically and move quickly left or right while feathering out the edges?
