Default PS3 External Hard Drive for Movie Viewing Help Needed

Hey guys,

Has anyone here used their PS3 as a media station, with an external HD plugged in USB for the file sources?

I have been trying to get this working at my house and am running into an unknown problem that I am hoping someone can help with.

I had to format the 160gig drive from NTSF to Fat32 with Fat32formatter.exe. That completed and my properties now state that I have 1 Volume that is completely Fat32.

With the drive empty, I created "Videos, Pictures, Games, Music" folders. In movies I put on many formats of videos that seemed to play back while connected in my computer.

I plug in the HD into the PS3 Slim and into wall for power, the HD turns on because it recognizes a USB socket. No HD comes up in my PS3 menu, I tried rebooting and still no recognize, also searching for media servers. I only get BD data, Search for Media Server, and the name of my Computer (recognizes my WMP connection to listen to music on my 360).

I have helped a friend out who was nearly in the same position and he had 100% success, I followed same path and still no recognition of drive.

Any ideas PS3 owners?
