Default Deals that were once questioned but..

I am bored and figured I would check out a few trades that people were shocked about and see how they have panned out. Some of these deals you have to look at from a sim perspective, but some you have to look from an NHL perspective:

-----------------

To Calgary:
Jason Spezza
Ruslian Salei

To Pittsburgh:
1st (Tavares)
Clarke Macarthur
Travis Moen
John Erskine

on paper this deal looks in favor of Pittsburgh. People questioned why the Flames would ever do that because they are a rebuilding team. Spezza is on PPG pace and has put the Flames in a playoff position. Tavares had a hot start in the NHL but has cooled down. Sure Pitts might win this deal long term but so far it has been in the Flames favour. Spezza was injured for awhile in the NHL but has been outstanding since he has returned.

------------------------

To Minnesota:
Martin Biron
1st

To Vancouver:
Thomas Vokoun
3rd

At this point when this deal was made, Biron was a starter and a pending UFA in the NHL and CPHL. Grant figured he would sign on an NHL team as a starter but his worst nightmare came true.... signed with the Islanders who just signed Roloson and had 15-year Dipietro coming off the IR. This deal has worked out for the Wild in the CPHL but next year might be a different story. Luckily Minny has Varlamov in the wings but he wont have a starters rating next year. Vokoun is playing really well in the NHL, and Biron is warming the bench/press box really well. Biron should get traded at the deadline, but only time will tell if he becomes a starter ever again.

----------------------

To Colorado:
Pierre-Marc Bouchard
Maxim Afinogenov
Josh Harding

To Toronto:
Christobal Huet
Jared Boll
David Moss

This deal was flamed big time, why would someone trade a starting goalie for a backup goalie. Huet was playing terrible and was losing his job to rookie Niemi. From day 1 GM Swayze wanted Huet off the team, he had a rough year and got re-rated lower then expected (69OVR). With the Lundqvist trade out of Toronto Rob was itching for a starting goalie. Another question with this deal: Why would anyone want washed up Maxim and injury prone Bouchard? Bouchard was dealt for sim performer and career year Matthew Lombardi and Maxim has flourished in Atlanta with more ice time, also on career year pace. Maxim has a reasonable contract and should be a top 6 forward next season. Boll is a 4th liner and Moss "hands of stone" is having his worst NHL season ever.

-------------------------

To NY Islanders:
Rick Dipietro
Tyler Myers

To Montreal:
Evgeni Nabokov

This looked like a robbery by Montreal and a lot of people questioned him taking advantage of the new GM but the deal has really evened out. Dipietro is still a bit of a question mark but if he can regain his form then this deal is a win by the Islanders. Tyler Myers is a complete stud, a franchise D-man and without him being in this deal it would 1. Never get done and 2. Look awful still. I remember the Islanders talking to me about this deal and I told him Tyler Myers is the real deal in my opinion... good thing its worked out. Also a conditional 1st is headed NY's way because Dipietro wont be playing 30 games, another great piece for the rebuilding Islanders.

-------------------------

To Toronto:
St.Louis, Martin
Klein, Kevin
Halak, Jaroslav
Ovechkin, Alexander

To Pittsburgh:
Lundqvist, Henrik
Frolov, Alexander
Jokinen, Olli
Vlasic, Marc-Edouard
Moller, Oscar

This was possibly the biggest move so far this season. Toronto paid, and paid big time for the great sim player Ovechkin. Lets take a look at this trade in a bit more detail. #1 goalie(lundy), top line winger(frolov), #1 centre(olli), top pairing d-man (Vlasic), decent prospect (Moller). Whenever you trade a #1 goalie in the CPHL and not get one back, you are in DEEEEPPPPP trouble, and Toronto paid big time for this deal. Lets see what Toronto got: top line winger/centre (St.Louis), prospect at the time (Klein), project goalie (Halak), best winger in the league (Ovie). This deal shows that arguably having the best player in the league is not always a good thing. This ruined Toronto this year.

Overall, a lot of these trades have a post that says: "Only time will tell who wins this deal", and the time has come to point out who won these deals. If there are any other deals you guys want to point out please mention them.

------------------------

To Columbus:
Vaclav Prospal,
Alexander Ovechkin
Curtis Glencross

To San Jose:
Joe Thornton
Alexander Semin

Another franchise changing moment with Ovechkin in the deal? shocker I know. This deal breaks down into this: 1 top line player for 2 top line players. This deal was questioned because Ovie was having a terrible sim year. Prospal is 'meh' to more then 50% of the league. Thornton and Semin are both top line players and can be argued that they are top 10 in their position in the NHL. Sure Glencross is a nice addition but hes a 3rd line player. This deal potentially is the reason why Columbus is now having a fire sale, would you rather have the best player or depth? This deal is an obvious answer.
