Any society that arrests (let alone handcuffs) a 12 year old for doodling on a desk is a society with much greater problems than doodling.

For those that were around to remember the Cold War, a time when a citizen would get shot for trying to leave East Germany, this kind of reminds me of the sorts of stories I would hear about how bad it was to live in a communist country.

If the Iron Curtain still existed, the East would pounce on this and tell their children, "If you are a young student in America, and you write on your desk, they will take you away in handcuffs and throw you in jail. You're lucky you don't live there."

This case probably has a lot to do with the disempowerment of teachers, but certainly demonstrates that the US has lost its way.
