Except that this is rather the point. If a teacher does
anything to a student the student doesn't like, the parents rush out to find a lawyer. That is exactly why schools are simply calling the police in more and more often. It downloads the fallout from dealing with the problem onto someone else.
Ultimately, a crime was committed: vandalism of public property.
The argument here really is whether the cops overreacted in dealing with that crime, not the school. The school's hands are tied.
