sounds like baseball has nothing to do with it then, it's just a convenient rule when it fits as long as we ignore when it doesn't
For myself i think it just came down to which tools were more assessable for me as a child (all but the bat). My childhood hero shot right but a left handed stick was what was available, and that is what I learned on then.
I shoot left, golf left, bat left but throw and write right
