most americans pick up hockey at a later age. since most are right handed, parents (most who have never played) will buy the kid a right handed stick. the kid is then forced to be 'right handed', without actually testing out both.

i grew up left handed, but being asian, my parents tried to force me to be right handed. it worked until junior high when i stared using my left hand for things. now, i draw with my right, write with my left. i am ambidextrous in sports. even now, i have trouble figuring out left and right (like when giving/receiving directions).

i think golfers are right handed, because left handed clubs are so hard to find. i wonder what the stats are for goalies.
