Not to mention the island HAS to be special. It cures cancer, can make people walk again, can travel through time, has a giant pocket of mysterious energy within it, and houses two supreme, god-like beings on it. And no one can find it.
There is definitely a reason behind protecting the island, and if it's revealed that there isn't, holy shat will I be pissed.
And for the record, I have a theory the little blonde boy is a manifestation of the island itself, the one power Jacob and Smokey answer to.

Yeah, the introduction of the kid and Smokey's apparent fear / something of him has to play into it. The Others have been sort of explained, but remember early on in the series the Others would move without being heard. Then there's the whole whispers / voices before something crazy happens, I think the kid is a part of that group. The "other" Others if you will. IMO there may be some group behind the scenes still that has yet to be revealed.
