Guys like Crosby and Nash and other "first line skilled linemates" aren't just out there for the taking. And the fact that Phaneuf watched tonight's game on TV and wasn't even on the radar for the Olympic team tells me that he wasn't going to fetch anybody quite as talented as so many of us seem to think.

But you see, there are at least two posters here who are future NHL GMs... and clearly have it figured out. Phaneuf could have landed a top line player! Sutter just... didn't want to! Or couldn't 'cause he didn't know any better!
