There is definitely a bigger protest influence in Vancouver than other Canadian cities except for maybe Montreal (as has been mentioned). I mean this is where groups like Greenpeace started. And usually that's a good thing.

But these idiots don't even know what they're protesting about. Sure they have their usual laundry list (money being spent in wrong places, inequality, etc.) but you could say that about just about any enterprise or event. Their not mad at the olympics, it's not like they are killing whales or poisoning third world children. Their just mad at all the usual stuff that's going on anyway, and are using this as an excuse to get violent.

The way I look at it is these people, if seriously committed to their causes could have USED the olympics to do some of the good they are always talking about. They have a city full of goodwill and money right now. They could have used that or worked with the city and IOC to fund projects, revitalize neighbourhoods, increase awareness for issues worldwide.

But no, they go and break a few windows and think their doing the world some great good.

They aren't activist, they're asshats.
