"The customer is always right." God do I hate that saying. People think it is like some sort of kryptonite statement when dealing with anyone in customer service.
I had a guy once, buying a car from us and he was totally unaware of how interest is calculated. He thought 7.49 % meant 'take the price and just add another 7.49 percent and divide up the payments equally.' So I tried to show explain to him what APR meant, how interest is calculated etc, how my profession is finance, and how I have been doing this for 10 years, and I am sure I know what I am talking about. We are talking a difference in the thousands. Finally he stops me in my tracks and says.... "haven't you heard the saying the customer is always right?" I reply, "Yes sir, I have, and this is one of those instances that completely disproves the entire argument." Customer looked shocked for a second and so did his wife.... then I said " Should I continue?" he replies "Um... yeah, ok, sorry."
If I know for certain, that what the customer is telling me is false or inaccurate, I have no issues politely correcting them. If they play the ignorant customer card, or "customers always right card" it usually doesn't end well. I do everything in my power to be polite to my customers, and I am not paid to be treated like an idiot by them.
