Just a thought if you are going to Central Europe. Use Prague as your base - it's a fantastic city in its own right and cheap, but you can take cheap trains to many interesting places: Berlin, Vienna, Budapest, etc, etc, etc. Of course, I really liked that part of the world because a lot of the middle aged and older people speak Russian.
