I have had my share of delightful McJob experiences in my time. A taste:
-As a courtesy clerk at Safeway, was required to provide my own uniform sans the fruity red vest I was to wear overtop, and had to pay union dues out of my $6/hour wage. Wasn't allowed to accept tips from customers for carrying their groceries out to their cars in Hoth-like weather.
-Overnight stock person at Wal-Mart, assigned to stock the furniture section solo, and they locked us in all night so escape became impossible. $7/hr (including $1/hr overnight shift 'premium').
-At Wendy's as a sandwich-assembler, was paid $4.25/hour and one day asked during the same shift to a) clean a drain pipe in the dry storage area using a toothbrush and b) venture out into the Hoth-like conditions to ensure that a garbage bag that was showing through the lid of the trash can was tucked neatly inside and no longer visible. Because I imagine all Wendy's customers are immediately turned off of their impending Big Bacon Classic combo when they drive up to the restaurant and see the top of a garbage bag lining the trash can.
Strangely, I never lasted long at these jobs and yet was confused when I would start a new one and it didn't seem a lot better by comparison.
