You should also consider how frustrating it is when someone drives the same stretch at the same time everyday and anticipates the merger, thereby getting in the correct lane well ahead of time just to have people create traffic jams by sneaking up in the other lane expecting to be let in by the others who waited patiently.
I'm pretty sure everyone with a drivers liscense and a vehicle knows, it's the ones with logic and common sense who decides not to resort to petty ways of seeking revenge on someone who cut them off. Plus if your so worried about crashing theres defensive driving courses one could take if it would make you safer. As long as there is the ability for anyone over 16 to aquire a liscense there will always be horrible drivers who didn't follow the rules. [/b][/quote]
Oh, I know. I'm not for getting revenge. I'm just trying to point out that there are ways to avoid angering other drivers. Plan your route and be patient.

It sucks to be trying to merge and having the car next to you not be cooperative, but at the same time, it sucks to spend an extra 1/2 hour in traffic because you planned your route and merged earlier only to have some guy speed up in the merging lane to try and cut in front and make every car behind have to brake. All that braking from people waiting too long to merge is what holds up traffic and creates bottlenecks. That, and tailgating... but if you leave space, someone usually squeezes in anyway, so you're tailgating whether you want to or not!!

Admittedly, I have had to learn patience. I first learned to drive in a small town where people drive with more repect (ie. not driving all the way to the end of dead lane before merging). It caught me a little off guard when I moved to the city and discovered how many horrible drivers there are.

Anyway, I think we're basically on the same page here. I'm just glad I don't own a car any more. So much less stress.
