Having player locked up for couple years means nothing if the player isn't very good, just ask Edmonton fans about their goalier who has a long term contract.
Of course, if you can lock up Ovie for a decade, that's a different story, but Dion is not Ovie. I think I have seen the best of Dion already, that's why I'm happy to see him go.

I'm not saying that Phaneuf didn't have some ups and downs this season, but it was no worse than say Regehr and Iginla.... and Phaneuf is only 24. I also think his poor play has been exaggerated a little this season and he was looking a lot better than last season. No doubt in my mind that it is a systems problem in Calgary and not a talent problem.
Besides, Ian White has his bad games and downright stinks some nights (if you watch the Leafs and Canucks on Saturday, you would see what I mean).
