After doing some thinking, I actually like this deal.

Phaneuf has been on the decline (offensively) the last couple of years.

If we didn't make this trade, I doubt the Flames would make the playoffs. Now, with some upgrades in offense, we have a great shot at the playoffs and possibly going deep.

I think being in a salary cap changes everything about having franchise players. Yes, we need to have a few to make a great team (and we already do Iggy, Kipper). But anymore, and we are not using $$ effectively.

With 6.5 million dollars, we can get the equivalent if not more than what Phaneuf provides.

Hagman, Stajan and White>>>Phaneuf (this year)

6.5 million equivalent=/>Phaneuf (future)
