I think there is risk that this will not send a message to the "veteran core" as much as it does to the youth on the team. Dion was genuinely shocked this morning and I think that is telling about what his attitude regarding his position on this team was. I get that the message is "no one is untouchable" when something like this happens, but I do think that its a little watered down when none of the vets were impacted today. Regher would have been easier to similarly deconstruct, but you sure wouldn't be getting the cap relief, scoring, etc that comes with dealing Dion.
I'm going to miss Dion but it was obvious that something had to give.
