I'm sorry, but this team is a mess on offense. We now have three 2nd line centres, but no true first liner, nor have we addressed the hole on first line LW. So, why make this trade at all? Not only does it not help us for the future, but Stajan is a UFA after this season, and White will have to be re-signed as well. White, by the way, is pretty freaking small. People can talk all they want about how good he is (Hodge actually thinks he's better than Phaneuf, which is a joke) but there's a big difference between playing on a garbage team that expects nothing from it's back end, to playing on a team that is useless without superb defensive play.
I guess what I am saying is, I have no idea how this makes us any better than when we had Phaneuf. Hagman is a great second liner but after that I just don't get it. Mayers for Sjostrom is a wash, we already have a glut of second line centres and White is already playing over his head as it is.
If you must trade Phaneuf, you trade him for a good roster player, a solid prospect and a high draft pick. You don't trade him for a hodge-podge of crap that we don't need. Not one of these players coming our way addresses Calgary's needs. This trade is so one sided it is pathetic.
