Really? It might be better than a netbook if you're standing on a train, but if you're holding it with one hand and typing with the other I imagine that would be awful. Seems to me like in that scenario, a BB or an iPhone would be better where you can hold it with both hands and type with your thumbs.

Asus 9" netbook with a touch screen is $509 - in the mold of other tablets, where you can swivel the screen to make it look like an iPad. Has a solid state drive too. Weighs 1kg, meaning that if you really wanted you could take this on a bus and read a book like many are saying what they could do with the iPad.
I guess my question is what does the iPad do that this particular netbook doesn't? It combines the best of both worlds for $90 less. (assuming iPad is 599 here if it's 499 in the states)

Multitouch. But they've got one that does that, just not out in Canada for some reason. It also goes to 32 GB drive, upgradeable to 2 GB RAM, and runs Windows7. iPad wins for battery life, screen size, thickness, weight, eBooks, and Apple-ness (simple and stylish), netbook wins for height, width, multitasking, processing power, open system, USB ports that don't need adapters, camera. I don't know how many people really would care about the touchscreen anyways though when they have keyboard and touchpad.
