There have been only 3 category 5 hurricanes hit the US mainland in the last 154 years. I didn't realize they were quite that rare. The storm that hit Galveston, TX early in the 1900's wasn't even a category 5. The loss of life and total destruction of that city then was unbelievable. I hope we don't see similar results with this storm. The surge and resultant floods that New Orleans is facing was also the main problem in Galveston.
