BSGs series start was the bar, and the rest of the series was the writers seeing how much lower then could get the bar without losing the fans. Apparently the answer has something to do with increments, cliffhangers, slightly raising it again (but not to the original position), Xena, finding out that this one guy can sing like a catholic choir boy, and another guy that's kinda skinny gets fat then skinny again and then marries the wrong girl, killing off everyone that's not part of the 'core', and promising that either everything or nothing will get explained by the end.

Caprica, or how much farther can we limbo. After watching 2 almost brilliant seasons of BSG, I'm in the mode of fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

If you haven't watched the first 2 seasons of Battlestar you probably should. They're excellent. But I wouldn't really worry about spoilers, outside of episode to episode momentum they don't really add up to a whole lot.
