Id suggest cleaning it more frequently. Scoop daily or every two days. Change litter every two weeks. And add some litter in the week in between changing the litter completely.

It shouldnt smell at all if you follow that and the cats appreciate a clean litter box.

We also put a few inches of litter. The cats like to dig. Costco has a good price on litter although theyve recently changed the brand and Im not positive the cats like the new stuff as much. And yeah, clumping for sure.

Clean the damn box! I can usually go a week without cleaning it and it doesn't smell. Take out the lumps and add a bit of fresh litter. Every three or four weeks do a complete change.

I just thought of another thing... how much litter do you put in it? Has to be at least an inch at the bottom of the box. I usually do 1.5-2 inches.
