I have a 7.1 in a wide empty room which is impossible to get great sound, but have a wonderful system, which sucks since the sound bounces all over. It's hard to say with the diagram you provided what exactly can can't be done, but what if you change your home theatre direction (ie, having the Centre where the LS is and where your RS is being your rear speakers? Wouldn't that solve the problem to a degree?
