The other thing to consider is entertainment options. Television didn't even exist when Gone with the Wind came out, so if you wanted to do something other than read a book or listen to the radio, you had to go to the theatre. Now there are hundreds of channels, sporting events, internet (not bootlegs), bootlegs, video games, and the list goes on.

Bottom line: It's freaking impressive.
