That's because of the settings in his Outlook.
I've had emails open in the preview pane and indicate there's a script attached. Due to the Outlook settings, the script isn't run.
As soon as the email is opened, the scripts are run. On one occasion, this actually corrupted my whole Outlook .pst file and I had to start from scratch.
Not having the preview pane isn't a good "solve-all" solution.
