Forgive me if I'm wrong (I don't really follow the comics that closely), but it strikes me that Venom would have been done more justice over the course of two films or so instead of one. It's difficult to have Spidey really get a feel for the suit and have it start to bond with him, then have him realize what's happening, get rid of the suit, have it find Eddie, and then the suit and Eddie going after Spidey....all in 2 hours.

What would have been great is have Pete find the symbiote, say, midway through Spider-Man 2, and have it help him defeat Doc and then maybe have Pete question himself but decide to keep it, and then that way you have all of 3 to deal with Spidey/the suit and then Venom/Eddie.

I agree with an above poster that the Spider-Man movies were getting to be a little like the 90's Batman films, with just a random villain (or villains) from Spidey's rogues gallery in each movie instead of focusing on the main character and then picking one or two villains/themes to focus on. The new Batman had at least a little continuity from Batman Begins to TDK with the Joker card at the end. I think a little foresight on the part of the creative team would have gone a long way to making what were some really good comic book/action movies possibly great.
