Solid post, something I had tolerated but now that you articulate the Earth angle I totally agree.
The best Trek episodes always featured a conflict between multiple parties with pros/cons in every corner. Prime Directive says we need to do X, innocent party needs Y, but Z "feels" right. Usually the resolutions were terrible bordering on embarrassing, but "Earth vs Evil" is really selling a fantasy series short.
