Reports are that his next film might be a smaller scale film, going back to his love of underwater (like the Abyss) but a biographical one about a deep sea diver who died in 2002 from doing a 171m dive in the ocean.
I'm sure he'll make the underwater scenes beautiful but deep sea diving really doesn't show the beautiful things we usually associate with being pretty in the ocean like coral reefs and tropical fish, etc. It's pretty much cold, open, dark water.
My personal preference is that he makes Battle Angel Alita but it's looking more and more that he doesn't want to do that anymore because again - the technology isn't up to his satisfaction yet and he's already done his big CG sci-fi film and he wants to do something different after each thing he makes.
I personally do not want to see an Avatar sequel unless it is with a new cast and a new world (Polyphemus, the planet above Pandora [Pandora was only a moon]). I think the story of Jake and the Na'vi are told and should not be revisited.

This is so simple and straight forward and exactly what they should do, but we all know the men in suits always win and Cameron will have to make a lame sequel that will totally ruin the greatness of Avatar. Get ready for an Avatar: Espisode II, Episode III.....and so on. Sigh.
