They're already out, I have one, and it was <$2000 almost a year ago. It's also 61" and uses LED technology.
Intrigued? It's a DLP. It's about a foot deeper than a flat screen, it can't be wall-mounted, it cuts off the edges of your screen at 1920x1080 (but not at 1768x992 if you're using it with a PC), and it's not very good if viewed from a bad angle. But it does do 3D, and it's extremely cheap for it's size.
If you're willing to sacrifice flat, there are bargains to be had.
