As for Carroll, I can't believe he won't have Shanahan-type control over the whole operation in Seattle, and not just patrol the sidelines.

Sure, there may be a GM to handle the nuts and bolts and admin duties, but I assume Carroll to have full control and final say over personnell decisions.

SEA could've likely had Holmgren in the same vein, with or without being coach, but as I said, probably was best to cut those ties as Holmgren would've been reluctant to make some of the fundamental changes (ie speed up the QB successor) from what was basically the team he constrcuted a couple years back.

Certainly a bit of a risk to see if Pete can translate college success in theory to the NFL, and, if he is given a long enough time frame to do it. That said, SEA just needs 3 or 4 more wins (2 more divison wins, 1 outside division win) to win the weak division (and if ARI loses Warner, its even more wide open) and get in the playoffs, so its not a complete teardown and rebuild that's needed to get back to the playoffs, which is the first step for Carroll and the franchise.
