Just because someone is using a gun that you only become available at lvl 40, doesn't make it immediately better than a low level gun that has attachments to it (ie a red dot sight)
My advice, find a weapon that you are really comfortable with, and keep using it. With every kill, it gets closer to unlocking an assortments of gadgets for it that will make things easier.
The game has a steep learning curve and it can be frustrating at first, but after awhile, you will learn the maps and where people tend to fight. You'll get better.

Yeah I was terrible for a while, but once you figure out the maps things become a tonne easier. I think I'm a level 45 or so now (but that's playing with my roommate) and I still roll with the UMP, and used the SCAR until I got the M16.
An easy way to get points even if you suck at killing guys is to shoot down UAV's, choppers, Harriers...UAV's are an incredibly easy 50 points, and the Harrier's super easy to take down too. However, it's way easier once you get the third rocket thing...not the Javelin but the one just before it I think.
