Freemont St. is worth checking out for sure, but it's just a walk down a few blocks covered by a digital light show over head, some novelty stores, and a group of older casinos.
Drinks are cheap, the gambling is thought to be a bit better than on the strip, and the light show is worth seeing (although it's incredibly cheesy).
But it's sort of apples and oranges when compared to catching a show. Two different activities.
Based on what you want to do I'd catch a show, cab it down to Freemont when it's over, and do both.
