It wasn't that he was a nice guy, it was the Southern Alberta vote was split along internal ideological lines, and north of Red Deer everyone was like "OMG We can't let the next Premier be from Calgary again!!!1111!!!!". In terms of the Edmonton area media, the week in between the two votes helped them a whole lot up here. I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of memberships were sold during that week.
