Anyhow, they have done far more than make it a little bit more difficult to travel. Like I said, they have cost the tax payers billions. Why do you think this WHI was inacted? The passing of the Patriot Act and other security legislation? The amount of resources that are now wasted screening ourselves is incredible. Every time this happens it slowly chips away at the fundemetal elements of our democratic society because the government is forced to take more control away from the people to "protect" the people. I haven't witness it as much in Canada but in the US and in some cities in Europe, airports look more like military compounds than a tourist hub. There is enough fire power at some of these airports to invade Canada.
As a LEO (Law Enforcement Officer) these measures sometimes help me out in my job. But like someone else posted, for every 1 security measure put in place that works and is useful, there more that are put in place that are not useful and do nothing but erode our way of life.
Also, I didn't say they achieved their goal of instilling fear in the masses, only that it is their goal. They have achieved instilling fear into the government however, and that is evident by some of the measures that have been implemented.
