It's tough to get an accurate number, but I think the 1 in 10 stat is a little outdated. I believe the more accepted number is around 1 in 50. Regardless, there is a very high likelihood that there are many homosexuals in the NHL.
My guess is though that it isn't 1 in 50. 1 in 50 works in a general population, but the NHL isn't really a random sample. They all exist in a culture where it is (I would argue) less acceptable to be gay than other places. For example, I imagine it's much easier to come out of the closet if you work at Futureshop than it is if you play a professional sport. I would think that the culture of machismo would filter out many gays. Perhaps I'm wrong ... just a guess.
