Well I doubt it will come to this but AVATAR needs to do well in order for the sequels to be made. If the "stunting" of the opening weekend is enough to limit its total box office earnings then it could affect whether or not we get to see more of Pandora.
I personally would love to see the two sequels James Cameron has planned.
But again, most likely AVATAR will make enough money to avoid any questions as to whether it warrants sequels.
