On the smaller truck side, I've had two Dodge Dakota 4x4's. The first one was a '97 V6 extended cab, the first year of the newer style. I had it for 250k over a decade, which included a fair amount of 4wd abuse. The second was an '07 V8 quad cab, had it for a year, pretty much city & hwy driving. Never had serious problems with either, other than replacing the front U-Joints on the old one. If you did decide on one, don't get the gutless wonder of the V6. The V8 chews through gas similarly to a fullsize truck though, so buying a Dakota is more about wanting a midsize truck than any kind of savings. I bought the second one as a one-year lease return for $31k.
