Like everything else, fuel price is set by supply and demand. The problem is the demand curve for gasoline isn't much of a curve.
However, I get a kick out of all the complaining. I walk 20 minutes to work. If I need to go to the mall I take the bus or train. Now while bus tickets have gone up a nickel and a plane ticket back home has gone up $5... I'm not feeling it as much as most people are.
I keep telling people that there is an easy way around this. You can use public transportation. You can buy a hybrid vehicle. You can take car pool. Ottawa has these beautiful bike paths so you can cycle everywhere without having to venture out into traffic.... but it's so much easier to complain and ask the government to fix the problem.
I may purchase a hydrogen vehicle if/when they become available... I hate having to depend of friends when I want to go to Algonquin park for the weekend to go canoeing... but until such time, meh, don't have much of a need for one.
