Do they? Look at how many people showed up or tuned in every game to wait and watch Barry Bonds (who you even noted has always been a ######) hit that big home run, people care about winners/record breakers and also putting sports figures into the hero category is what is wrong with this world anyways. Heroes are policeman, fireman, soldiers, etc. not sports athletes, they are entertainers.
I understand what you are saying but I think as soon as Tiger gets back on the course, wins a few tournaments, his sponsors and fans will push all this to the back burner and there will be some new athlete for everyone to hate and make front page news.
This will always be part of Tiger's life when people look back at his career but I think it will be nothing more than a blip on the radar when everything is said and done.
Personally I think he is an idiot! If he wanted to live the life that he was living he should have never got married and put his wife and more importantly his kids through all this. I'm just glad the kids are young enough that it won't be memory that will stick with them forever.
