People hardly remember Tyson's greatness anymore. He's just viewed as a freak. People don't remember Pete Rose's 4000+ hits either.
But people, fairly or unfairly, put Tiger up on such a pedestal where he is arguably the most recognizable athlete in the world. So many people came to golf because of him. They will leave. So many companies and sponsors came to golf because of him. They have left.
You loved golf before Tiger, you're exempt. You're the sports fan, sports fans are the minority.
Here's a simple test for all the guys. If you watch golf, does your wife/gf watch with you? If so, does she only notice if Tiger is playing? Will she now stop to watch Tiger with you anymore or will she just walk away. This is a test for the future when Tiger comes back.
You know as well as anyone that when you play golf, you're naked out there. There are no teammates, no coaches. Everything little thing affects your concentration. He feeds of the huge crowds that follow him. Will crowds still pay big dollars to see him? Fans cheer for heroes.. he no longer is one.

For the rich 50+ year old men that work in my building and the buildings surrounding he may well have become even more of a hero.
