I'm a carpenter, so I know I'm doing it wrong, but, I've had some success with a 2 Litre pop bottle filled with water, then by rapidly squeezing said filled bottle I was able to pump the water down the drain, dislodging the hairball or whatever. Rinse,Repeat Rinse, Repeat. Maybe a combo-play of pumping and snaking can get the flow going again?.

Side note: Do you have access to the other side of the tub's plumbing? If so there may be a clean-out on the piping you can unscrew and snake from there. I have seen many access doors in the bottom of a closet for this reason. Maybe the tub is on the main floor and your basement ceiling isn't finished?
