Both of those register higher on the scale for North American sports than the Grey Cup.

EDIT: I would also add that there are no college football or basketball stories on that list, which also register substantially higher than the CFL.
I say North American in a commercial society sense. American and Canadian societies share many things, like sports, material stuff, language, holidays etc. actually its more canadians copying americans most of the time. anyways my point is that Mexico and latin american countries may be part of North or North and central America geographically but not so much in mainstream society. Canada and the States are tied in many ways.
to illustrate, he could mention mexico with soccer and baseball but, how many mexicans are going to read his column? compare that to how many Canadians will look at his column.
his article is focused on the 'big 4' american sports (thus no college sports). but In Canada we have the 'big 2' of hockey and canadian football (except maybe in Toronto, where they are in love with anything american)
your point is correct about college sports, they could include some there, but c'mon rube, the national championship(the 97th Grey Cup) of Canada's second favourite sport and the team with the biggest fanbase blows it. yet a regular season game between edmonton and dallas makes the list? i guess i am contradicting myself, that is a north american story (though i'm suprised if many americans heard about it). maybe the CFL is specific to Canada, but there are people outside the country that watch it. i guess this article is a good example of americans not paying attention to, wait, he did pay attention to Canada. but how do you miss something that just happened a month ago. he must be a dallas stars fan if he remembers a hockey play in a regular season over that.
