really since it is likely written my an american writer, he should try and cater to north america as a whole...whatever.

You're contradicting yourself. A story like that is not a "North American" newstory, it's specific to Canada. I don't see you complaining about the lack of content from the Latin American baseball leagues, or the Mexican soccer league. Both of those register higher on the scale for North American sports than the Grey Cup.
EDIT: I would also add that there are no college football or basketball stories on that list, which also register substantially higher than the CFL.
