His history in the minors and his play in the major leagues.
I don't think that being an average hitter is as bad as some may think either.
He has little to no power, his on base percentage isn't great and he hits for decent average. He doesn't really do anything great in terms of hitting, is 35 years old and I just don't see how/why he is would be expected to be better than average.
I don't think he will be bad but in terms of hitting I would expect him to be about 6-9 amongst AL shortstops every year which is an average hitter.
