The following season when everyone had a year in that system under their belts the results were dramatically better. A big knock from the media and other critics about that team was the fact that they didn't have a superstar receiver. Which was hogwash since that offense was the top in the league for three years and Green consistently threw for over 4,000 yards every season. The problem with that team was a cream puff defense.

Green was 30 maybe even 31 his first season in KC. Cassel is 28 maybe only 27. That isn't a big difference in age. Green had a lot more to work with, but also possessed the physical tools to be successful in the NFL. A strong arm, accuracy, the ability to find the right receiver. If that team ever got in a third and long situation I was never worried, they seemed to get the first down every time.
Trent Green had a strong arm? From what I remember that was the knock on him, lack of arm strength. He was a bit like Chad Pennington where he had nice touch on his passes, but he didn't have much velocity on his ball. Cassel is 27 the difference in experience is pretty significant still. In time Trent Green learned to stay in there that extra second or make a move to wait for the receiver to get open down the field. Maybe Cassel can too.

Still I think you helped make my point in that if Cassel is lousy again next year with some better players around him who know the system better, than you know he is lousy. But to flip out and get rid of him after this season would be a knee jerk reaction in my opinion.
