I haven't read the whole thread but the one Calgary memory that I miss probably more than anything else is The Republik. I saw so many amazing bands there for cheap, it was a sad day when that venue closed.

That, my friend is one of the greatest travesties of the Calgary club scene. 25 cent hiballs fed my craving on many a Thursday, and there was nothing like getting up on stage grooving to a little NIN.
One of my fondest memories: I saw my first girl/girl makeout there, and took one of 'em home (she was Swedish, let me tell ya holy moly).
The last night it was open was pretty funny, all the old school punk rockers that used to go there in the late 80/s early nineties crawled out of the woodwork, put on their Dead Kennedies t-shirts and combat boots, and tore the place apart. It was kinda funny watching the expressions on all these young kids that had no idea what the place was all about and the clientel it had when it first got going. [/b][/quote]
I hope I'm not the only semi-old (not cheese/cow old) timer who doesn't remember spending many a night at the Old Republik on 9th ave...and that frickin' cold roof top patio
remember the new one opening...and closing
and lots of memories (and a few blackouts sadly) in between
