People with strong morals can make mistakes. I could see how someone in his position could find themselves in a one-off situation where something unplanned, unwanted overall, and against their values and morals happens. In a situation like that, you have to learn from it, make amends, pick yourself up, and carry on. Hopefully the wiser and with a better understanding of yourself.
But if in fact he has been cheating and carrying on extra-marital relations far outside the realm of a one-night stand, and working diligently to keep these relationships intact, then there is something wrong deep down with him. The pure and simple devotion and commitment implied in marriage cuts right to the core of a person's make up - if you can't or won't uphold the single most profound commitment you can make to someone, there's really nothing else of substance to you. Like if you can't commit your whole self to a person exclusively, and stay true to your word and intent, how can anything else you ever say or do, at any level, be viewed with any credibility, honesty, or integrity?
